Fight Crohn’s with CLA

Jordan Rubin New York Times Best Selling Author of “The Maker’s Diet” and Founder of Garden of Life Supplements healed himself of Crohn’s disease.  The following is an article written by Jordan.

This new research from The Nutritional Immunology and Molecular Medicine Laboratory (NIMML) research team at Virginia Tech really hits close to home for me.  As many of you know, it was my personal bout with Crohn’s Disease that God used to lead me to dedicate my life to sharing his health wisdom with the world.  This exciting new find in the fight against Crohn’s and potentially other manifestations of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), like ulcerative colitis, comes at a much needed time.

Statistics from the CDC show that inflammatory bowel disease is one of the five most prevalent gastrointestinal disease burdens in the United States, causing more than 700,000 physician visits, 100,000 hospitalizations, and disability in 119,000 patients annually. Over the long term, up to 75% of patients with Crohn’s Disease and 25% of those with ulcerative colitis will require surgery.  Chances are that you know someone who is personally suffering from a form of IBD
Well it turns out that there is novel therapy for IBD known as conjugated linoleic acid (CLA).  Well, perhaps not so novel, but I applaud the research nonetheless. CLA is a group of fatty acids found in ruminant animals and tends to be as much as 3 to 5 times higher in grass-fed animals than in the grain-fed animals raised by conventional beef operations. In recent years, research on CLA has also shown that it may help control weight and support healthy cholesterol levels.  While you can get CLA from supplementation, I believe the best sources of CLA are found in grass-fed animal products like butter, cheese or meat.

What I love most about this new find, other than all the people suffering from IBD that it will help, is that it supports two principles that have been the cornerstones of my teaching for the last 15 years…

1) Eat what God created for food
2) Eat it in a form that’s healthy for the body

Pink Slime!

We care about our health and those of our readers so we are passing this along for your information.

The favorite quote in the video: “it’s pink, therefore it’s meat.” Not exactly what I would consider words to live by!

And of course, in typical USDA fashion, they’ve managed to find a way to allow Big Beef to feed the U.S. population these ammonia-soaked fat trimmings without having to put it on the beef label or disclose it to the public in any way.

Former undersecretary of agriculture, Joann Smith─the USDA official who approved pink slime─should be ashamed of her decision.  But perhaps her $1.2 million in earnings as a member of the Board of Directors of Beef Products Inc.─the makers of the pink slime─has helped to ease her emotional anguish.

And if pink slime being in 70% of the beef at your local supermarket wasn’t shocking enough for you, now it seems that the USDA has plans to feed it to your kids. That’s right, it’s part of the national school lunch program!
